Why Nargis Dutt Was Buried After her Death Despite Being Married to a Hindu?

Mother India star Nargis Dutt was married to Sunil Dutt just after the completion of the film. The couple lived happily with two children, Priya Dutt and Sanjay Dutt until, Nargis was diagnosed with cancer. Despite her illness, Nargis was so excited for her son Sanjay acting debut with the film “Rocky.” Sunil Dutt did everything to save her and also the couple went to the United States for her treatment where she underwent seven surgeries in a week. Doctors were afraid that she could not survive the procedure and will die in between, but her willingness to live made her came through it.

She insisted on returning to India and want to live with her children in her last days. She celebrated her anniversary and also prepared her children for the upcoming tragedy. She said that she wouldn’t be for the next anniversary. But, she promised Sanjay to be in the premiere of his first film even though she had to come in a stretcher. But sadly she passed away just four days before the premiere.

It was her last wish to be buried next to her late mother in the family kabaristan. Sunil Dutt completed her wish despite facing hatred from many people who insisted that being married to a Hindu she need a hindu style funeral. But Sunil Dutt was strict to his decision and called priest from all India to pray for her soul. They also went to Haridwar to pray for her soul according to hindu tradition.

At the premiere of Sanjay Dutt’s first film, they left a seat vacant for her next to Sunil Dutt, in her honor. Sunil Dutt despite being heartbroken, don’t let his children cried in front of media and told them to cry only in front of him. Their daughter Priya Dutt said that her father was broken after Nargis’ death and used to go to the graveyard and sit beside her grave many times. But later on he came over from his grief to look at his children, especially Sanjay who fell in the grip of drug addiction. The beautiful love story of Sunil Dutt and Nargis ended with her tragic death. Their love was beyond boundaries of religion but failed against cancer. Even though both of them died but still their love exist and will remain forever.
