Before knowing about all 51 Shakti Peeths, lets know about the story behind this and why these temples has a sacred place in Hindu Mythology. Lord Shiva’s wife Sati was curious to know why her father Daksha Prajapati not invited her and her husband in Yagna despite the fact he invited all other Gods and her sisters with their family. Even though Lord Shiva insisted on her to go for yagna she went to see the yagna. There she couldn’t bear insult of her husband on her own father and ended her life by entering into same Yagna’s fire . Lord Shiva’s ganas destroyed the yagya and cut the head of Daksha Prajapati. When Lord Shiva came to know about the incident he was devastated to see his dead wife, he picked up her body and started roaming in the whole world. To save the world from great harm, Lord Vishnu took over his Sudarshana Chakra and cut Goddess Sati’s body into 51 parts, which fell on different places on Earth making 51 Shakti peeths at these places. Now let’s learn about the 51 Shakti Peeths with their name and location.

1.Amarnath Temple: Amarnath located in Jammu and Kashmir is also a Shakti Peeth alongside being a place to worship to Lord Shiva. It is believed that Sati’s throat and Anklet fell here. Goddess was worshipped with the name of Mahamaya here. 2.Attahas Temple: Attahas Temple located in the district Birbhum of West Bengal is a ShaktiPeeth where Lips of Goddess fell. The temple is located 2 kilometer east of Labhpur village. Shakti is worshiped with the name Phullara Devi here. 3.Bahula Temple: Bahuladevi Temple is located 8 kilometers away from Katwa, Purba Bardhman district of West Bengal at Ketugram village. Here left arm of Sati Mata fell making the place a sacred shrine. 4.Bakreshwar Temple: Bakreshwar is located on the bank of Paaphara river in West Bengal. It is 24 kilometers away from Siuri Town in Birbhum district while just 7 kilometers away from Dubrajpur Railway Station. Goddess is worshipped here with the name of Mahishamardini where portion between the eyebrows fell.

5.Avanti Devi Temple: Avanti Temple is a famous shaktipeeth situated on the bank of Shipra river in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The elbow of Goddess Sati fell here to make it one of the 51 Shakti Peeth. The temple is also famous with the name Harsiddhi. 6.Aparna Devi Temple: Aparna Devi Temple is located in Bhabanipur in the Upazila of Sherpur, Bogra, Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh. The left anklet of Goddess Sati fell here making it a sacred shrine for Hindus. 7.Biraja Temple: Biraja Devi temple is located at Jajjpur District of Odisha. Navel of Goddess Sati fell here at the time her corpse was broken by Lord Vishnu with his Sudarshan Chakra. 8.Muktinath Temple: Muktinath Temple is Nepal is believed to be one of the 51 Shakti Peeth. The body part fallen here was Sati Mata’s head. Goddess is worshipped here with the name Gandaki Chandi.

9.Bhadrakali Devi: Bhadrakali temple located on the bank of Godavari river in Nashik city of Maharashtra is another Shakti Peeth. The temple is also famous with the name Saptashrungi. Two parts of chin of Goddess Sati fell here to form it a temple dedicated to Shakti. 10.Hinglaj Mata Temple: Hinglaj Mata Temple also known as Kottari Devi is located in Lasbela, Pakistan. Part of the head (Bramharandhra) of Sati Mata fell here.11.Jayanti Devi: Jayanti Devi temple is located in the Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. The temple is also popular with the name Nartiang Durga Temple. The Shakti-peeth is also said to have located in Amta town of West Bengal locally popular as Malai Chandi Mata. Left thigh of the goddess fell here.12.Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple: Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple is situated in Bangladesh. 13. Jwalaji Temple: Jwalaji Temple is a famous temple located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The temple is just 20 kilometers away from Jwalamukhi Road station. Here, the tongue of Sati Mata fell. The place is also popular for being a home to continuous burning flame which is burning from several years and not fell dim even if water is poured on it. The Goddess is worshiped with the name Jwalamukhi or Ambika. 14.Kalipeeth: Kaipeeth is located at Kalighat, Kolkata of West Bengal. Right toes of Sati Mata fell here. The goddess is worshiped with the name Kali Devi. 15.Kamakhya Devi : Kamakhya Devi is a popular Shakti peeth located on the Neelachal hills in Guwahati, Assam. Genitals of Goddess Sati fell here to form the place a sacred shrine. 16.Kankalitala: Kankalitala located on the bank of Kopai River in West Bengal is also one of the 51 Shakti Peeth. The temple is 10 kilometers from the Bolpur station of Birbhum district. Here the waist of Sati Mata’s corpse fell. The goddess is worshiped with the name Kankaleshwari and Devgarbha Devi here.

17.Kanyashram : Bhagavathy temple of Kanyakumari became a Shakti Peeth when Sati Mata’s back fell at the place. The temple is located in southernmost tip of India in Tamil Nadu. Goddess is worshipped with the name of Sarvani. 18.Vajreshwari Temple: Vajreshwari Temple is located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Left breast of goddess Sati fell in Nagarkot of Kangra to make it a Shakti Peeth. The goddess is worshipped with the name Jayadurga in this temple.19.Kiriteswari Temple: Kititeswari Temple located in Murshibad district of West Bengal is another Shakti Peeth located in India. The temple is situated in Kiritkona village, 3 kilometers away from Lalbag Court Road railway station in Murshidabad. Crown of Goddess fell here to form it a sacred shrine. 20.Ratnavali Temple: Ratnavali Temple is situated on the bank of Ratnakar river at Khanakul I Krishnanagar of Hooghly in West Bengal. 21.Bhramari Devi: Bhramari Devi is located in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. The temple is also known as Trishrota Devi due to its location on the bank of River Trishrota. Left leg of Sati Mata fell here at the time.22.Dakshayani Devi: Dakshayani Devi is Shakti Peeth situated at a place which is now comes under China. The temple is located at Manas in Tibet at the foot of Mount Kailash in Lake Manasarovar. Right hand of Goddess Sati fell here. 23.Manibandh Temple: Manibandh Temple is a famous temple situated at Gayatri hills near Pushkar, Rajasthan. Pushkar is about 11 kilometers away from Ajmer. It is also popular with the names Chamunda Mata Temple, Shri Raj Rajeshwari Puruhuta Manivedic Shaktipitha, and Gayatri Devi. 25.Guhyeshwari Temple : Guhyeshwari Temple is located in Nepal which received both knees of the Goddess Sati. The temple is also popular with the name Mahashira Devi and is a famous tourist destination being one of the Shakti Peeths. 26.Chattal Bhawani: Chattal Bhawani temple is located in Chittagong Bangladesh. The temple received upper teeth of Sati Mata and became a Shakti Peeth since then. 27.Varahi Devi Temple: Varahi Devi temple is situated in Champawat, Uttarakhand. Champawat is just 12 kilometers away from Tanakpur railway station. Varahi Devi Temple is situated at Panchsagar Near Lohaghat in Champawat. Lower teeth or Naval of Goddess Sati fell at the place. 28.Chandrabhaga Temple: Chandrabhaga Temple is located near Somnath Temple in Veraval, Gujarat. 29.Alopi Devi Temple:Alopi Devi Temple is located at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Finger of Sati Mata fell here and the temple is also known Lalita Devi temple. 30.Bhadrakali Devi: Bhadrakali Devi temple is situated in Kurukshetra, Haryana. Ankle bone of Goddess fell here. The place is also mentioned in Hindu epic as Sthaneshwar. 31.Maa Sharda Temple: Maa Sharda Temple located on the top of Trikoot hill at Maihar, Madhya Pradesh is also one of the Shakti Peeths. The goddess is worshipped with the name Shivani Devi. 32.Nandikeshwari Temple: Nandikeshwari Temple is situated in Sainthia city of West Bengal. 33.Manikya Amba Shaktipeeth: Manikya Amba Shaktipeeth also called as Bheemeswara Swami Temple is located in Draksharamam, Kakinada of Andhra Pradesh. Navel of Goddess fell here to form it a sacred shrine. 34.Naina Devi Temple: Naina Devi Temple is a famous temple located in Himachal Pradesh. Right eye of Sati fell here at the time which made it one of the 51 Shakti Peeths. Goddess is worshipped under the name Mahishamardini Devi. The temple is also famous for other stories related to miracle shown by Goddess. 35.Maa Narmada Temple: The temple is located at the source point of Narmada river in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh. Right buttock of Sati Mata fallen here. 36.Bhramarambika Devi: Bhramarambika Devi is located in Srisailam at Nallamala hills of Andhra Pradesh is another Shakti Peeth. 37.Shuchi Temple: Shuchi Temple is located at Suchindrum about 11 kilometers on Kanyakumari Trivandrum road, in Tamil Nadu. Upper Teeth of Sati Mata fell here to form it one of the Shakti Peeths.38.Sugandha Temple: Sugandha temple is located in Shikarpur, Gournadi in Bangladesh. The temple is 20 kilometers away from Barisal town located on the bank of Sonda river. Nose of Sati Mata fell here.39.Tripura Sundari Temple: Tripura Sundari Temple is situated in Udaipur, Tripura at the top of the hills. It is close Radhakishorepur village, a little distance away from Udaipur. Right leg of Sati Mata fell here. Goddess is worshipped in three forms, Raj Rajeshwari, Lalita Tripura and Sundari at the place. 40.Ujaani: Ujaani is a Shakti Peeth situated at Mangalkot, 16 kilometers from Guskara station in Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal. Right wrist of Sati Mata fell here. The goddess is worshipped with the name, Mangal Chandika.

41.Vishalakshi Devi: Vishalakshi Devi temple is located at Manikarnika Ghat on the bank Ganga river at Kashi where earring of Sati Mata fell to form a Shakti Peeth. 42.Kapalini Devi: Kapalini Devi also called Bargabhima Devi is famous for being a Shakti Peeth for receiving left ankle of Goddess Sati. The temple is located at Tamluk under Purba Medinipur of West Bengal. 43.Ambika Devi: Ambika Devi received fingers of left leg which made it a Shakti Peeth. The temple is located in Virat Nagar, Alwar district close to Bharatpur, Rajasthan.44.Katyayani Shakti Peeth: Katyayani Shakti Peeth is situated in Vrindavan, Mathura of Uttar Pradesh. The goddess is worshipped with the name Uma Devi. Ringlets of hair of Sati Mata fallen here to form it a Shakti Peeth.

45.Devi Talab Mandir: Devi Talab Mandir is situated in Jalandhar, Punjab. Left breast of Sati Mata fell here which made it one of Shakti Peeth. Goddess is worshipped with the name Tripuramalini Devi. 46.Baidyanath Dham: Baidyanath Dham is located in Jharkhand known for being a Shakti Peeth. Heart of Sati Mata fell here. Goddess is worshipped under the name Jayadurga Devi. 47.Aranya Devi Temple: Aranya Devi is located in Arrah district of Bihar at Badi Devisthan Shish Mahal Chowk. Right Thigh of Sati Mata fell here to form it a Shakti Peeth. 48.Chintpurni Temple: Chintpurni Temple is a famous Shakti Peeth located in Chintpurni of Himachal Pradesh. Foot of Sati Mata fell here. The goddess is worshipped with the name Chhinnamastika Devi.

49.Tarapith Rampurhat: Tarapith Rampurhat is a Shakti Peeth situated in West Bengal. Goddess is worshipped with the name Maa Tara. The temple is made at the place where third eye of Sati Mata fell. 50.Dhakeshwari Temple: Dhakeshwari Temple was in Dhaka, Bangladesh but was shifted to Kolkata, West Bengal at the time of partition of India. The main murti was secretly brought in Kolkata in the house of a wealthy Bengali Hindu family to prevent vendalization. Now the temple is situated in Kumartoli, West Bengal. Gem of Sati’s crown fallen here. 51.Danteshwari Temple: Danteshwari temple is located in Dantewada, Chattisgarh. Tooth of Sati Mata’s corpse fallen here to form it Danteshwari Devi.
